The new Firefox 14 for Android: “All the awesomeness of Firefox, packed into a mobile device”

As the browser wars heat up, Mozilla steps up to remain competitive with particular focus in the mobile arena. Taking the first steps to provide users with the optimum mobile browsing experience, Mozilla released a revamped version of the Firefox web browser for Android. The version 14 of Firefox for Android features improved overall performance and offers the safest, fastest, and smartest way to browse on an Android device.

The latest version of the Firefox for Android is currently the fastest mobile web browser in the Android market, followed by Opera and Dolphin. Start up and page-load speed is remarkably quick, and the browser is generally responsive. It runs thrice as fast as Android’s default browser and Firefox for Android (Fennec) 2010 version.

The mobile browser is simple yet functional and offers smooth navigation and a new slick user interface which is more mobile friendly compared to its earlier versions. Texts are highly readable, columns more detectable and interface follows Mozilla’s new “soft, friendly, and human” design as part of Mozilla’s effort to “unify Firefox user experience across form factors”.

Just like its desktop counterpart, the new Firefox for Android supports Mozilla Sync feature which makes transition from desktop browsing to mobile simpler and easier. Through Firefox Sync, passwords, bookmarks and history saved on a desktop can easily be accessed on a mobile device. The upgraded version of Firefox for Android also offers flash support which is a great advantage over its top competitor, Chrome for Android.

Another significant advantage of the Firefox 14 over other Android browsers is its security features. Firefox 14 promises to protect users’ data with security protocols such as the Do Not Track feature.  Firefox version 14 is the first mobile browser to support this service, a privacy tool which protects user information from websites tracking online behavior for advertising purposes.

Additional features of the Firefox for Android:

  • Download manager
  • Tabbed browsing that lets users switch seamlessly between tabs
  • Add-ons
  • Save page as PDF

Compared to earlier versions which are quite bothersome considering speed and performance, version 14 is a great improvement. And while the upgraded version still has a lot to improve upon, Firefox 14 for Android opens great possibilities in the future of mobile web. Without doubt, Android users who run Firefox on their desktop will love this new version of the Firefox for Android.

Firefox 14 for Android is now available for download in the Google Play Store.
